SADHANATAI AMTE:
A SPIRITUAL YET PRAGMATIC INCARNATION OF BABA'S DREAMS IS NO MORE...........
A GREAT LOSS TO THE NARMADA FAMILY AS TO ANANDAWAN AND HEMALKASA
Sadhanatai Amte is no more! It is not a sudden shock, knowing about her collapsing physique over last few months, however it is an event, filling one with immense pain and anguish. Seeing her as a shadow of Baba Amte's life, her loneliness since his demise was painful too. Even with large number of members of her larger family of all at Anandwan and Hemalkasa to look after, she had certainly sunk into her own peaceful cave with memories of long life with Baba and his dreams and deeds. A bold lady that she was, no doubt she was neither repenting nor rejoicing, memories or actions. Engrossed in her own lifestyle with spirituality and religious faith, she never did injustice to not one but many social causes which Baba upheld. It was only seeing her from a close distance, however, could one realise the originality, integrity and creativity within her. She herself was committed to all progressive plans and actions.
When Sadhanatai came to Narmada valley with Baba, it did not take long for people of the valley to realise her valuable capacities and role that she could play, even if in the shadow of a large banyan tree i.e. Baba .She could not only see the feasibility or otherwise of Baba's vision or dreams; but could also contribute to the planning details with her practicality as well as ability to tie the loose ends and bind the supporters and friends. To all the activists as well as young and old village leaders she was a motherly figure no doubt, but she was certainly not apolitical, rather was strategical. With few mincing words, with boldness and confidence, she was able to convey to all criticism, including to Baba himself. Not just her pooja, but her relationship with the river and nature could help her attain a special position and space in the Andolan's world which can never be snatched away from our hearts, inspite of her sad demise.
Sadhanatai's long life journey from Anandwan to Somnath, Hemalkasa to Narmada was so enriching for herself and others that if she had not written the autobiography titled "Samidha", encouraged and facilitated by Ramdas Batkalji, the world might not have known the same. Sadhanatai herself was certainly not one who would trumpet her own contributions and yet Baba, her real lover, would never forget to not just address but to impress the same upon the people around. A life full of compassion and passion has come to an end but only after it has sown and grown a beautiful and bountiful Anandhwan behind her. She will no doubt lie next to Baba for her heavenly rest but never will her Karuna die or disappear from our hearts where invaluable inspiration remains forever. She will remain eternal in Narmada and Anadwan…
