International Uranium Film Festival moves to Shillong
After its success in the nation's capital, the International Uranium Film Festival is now all set to be the spectacle of one of the beautiful cities of north-east – Shillong on 10th and 11th January. The festival will be organized in the famous "Hotel Majesty" for the two days. The founders of this unique festival, Journalist and documentary filmmaker Mr. Norbert G. Suchanek and Ms. Marcia Gomes de Oliveira, a social scientist as well as the Indian coordinator Mr. Shri Prakash, National Award Winner Documentary filmmaker are quite happy and content with the response they received from Delhi and are hopeful to receive the similar kind of response from Shillong and other cities too.
The festival here is scheduled to commence from 11a.m. and shall be continued till 7 p.m. The chief guest of the occasion will be Mr. John F. Kharshiing, Chairman of Federation of Khasi States. Some of the films to be screened here are "Jadugoda: the Black magic" whose director is Mr. Shriprakash himself and several other important films from Australia, Europe and the Americas.
An interactive session has also been planned out to provide the rostrum to the audience to keep their opinions, views and suggestions before the public and also raise questions from the organizers.
today at press club in Shillong, Samuel Jyrwa (Ex president) Khasi Student Union who is the organiser of this festival in Shillong told the media people that the festival is open for every one who is interested in environmental issues.
The organizers are quite excited and keeping their fingers crossed for tomorrow's opening.
It must be known that the International Uranium Film Festival came to India on 4th January, 2013 in New Delhi and shall travel to nine other cities of the country viz. Shillong, Ranchi Manipal, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Thrissur as part of the VIBGYOR festival. And finally the Uranium Film Festival in India will end in Mumbay. "The festival was created to stimulate the debate about nuclear energy and uranium mining in Brazil but also in India and all over the world", says festival director Norbert G. Suchanek. "And we want to stimulate the production of new films, movies and documentaries about that for humanity extremely important issue. We would like to see young filmmakers from Shillong or other parts of India making films about nuclear issues like Uranium mining, nuclear power plants or radioactive waste. For that our staying in Mumbai will also be very important."
