Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) introduced a concurrent resolution supporting the formation of a bipartisan Presidential Commission to study the establishment of a National Museum of the American People into the House of Representatives. The National Museum of the American People will tell the story of ALL of the American People from prehistoric times to the present and advance and disseminate knowledge of that story. All of the money to design and build the museum will come from non-appropriated funds. Mirkarimi, accompanied by supporter and former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos, started his address to the lively crowd by addressing the one question that everyone seems to be asking: "Why not mayor?" Mirkarimi explained that when Sheriff Michael Hennessey announced he would not seek reelection, it was clear to Mirkarimi that pursuing the citywide office of sheriff was an ideal opportunity to continue his work to improve public safety and both continue and build upon the progressive criminal justice programs implemented by Hennessey. The event will be held at Offices of Baker & Hostetler LLP (45 Rockefeller Plaza, 11th Floor) from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. The event aims to enlighten the Iranian American community on the practical ramifications of trade law regulations between the U.S. and Iran. A distinguished panel of legal experts will cover topics ranging from the transfer of personal assets to making charitable donations and purchasing Iranian art. Full Article » July 7, 2011, New York, NY- The Iranian American Bar Association in collaboration with the Asian Law Caucus are seeking a Policy & Education Fellow for the duration of one year, with possibility of extension. The Fellow will be housed in the National Security & Civil Rights Program of the Asian Law Caucus in San Francisco, CA and will be responsible for addressing the racism and stereotyping borne by "post 9/11 impacted communities," including the Iranian-American community, through policy, communication, public education, and law.
