Although the West Bengal government is very much there with the compensation, there is no assurance to solve the murder case of wetland martyr Tapan Dutta. The government has given a cheque of Rupees one lakh to his family and a secured government job for her elder daughter Priyanka. Hopefully, using compensation ground in such a way Mamata's Government is not trying to wash their hand in Tapan Dutta Murder case?
Accompanied by Bally MLA, Sultan Singh, and the chairman of West Bengal Pollution Control Board, Binay Dutta, the state Environment Minister, Sudarshan Ghose, on Friday visited Tapan Dutta's residence at Bally. After offering the cheque minister assured Priyanka that after her graduation (Priyanka now a 2nd year student), the state government would take the initiative of providing her a job.
As a surprise gift for his decade long protest for the shake of wet-land and environment just a week before the 2011 Bengal Assembly Election result got out, on May 6 at Ghose para rail-gate near the Bally railway station, Tapan Dutta was shot dead. The culprits are yet to be identified even as CID is probing the case. As of now, those arrested are believed to be just hired killers.
Talking to TSI, Tapan Dutta's widow, Pratima Dutta, a gram-panchayet samiti member said, "Not only the environmental issues, whenever he feel some extent of corruption in society he didn't think twice to jump within. Be it the corruption of Bally Co-operative bank or the irregularities of consuming electricity he was the most dare-devil."
Opposing a group of developers who wanted to clog Joypur bil, Tapan had filed a PIL in Calcutta high court. Accepting their demand partially, the High Court passed an interim order prohibiting filling up of any water body in that area. But filling up went on in a massive way. And that is how Tapan Dutta, struggling relentlessly with his very few associates, became the real danger for the vested interest of promoter-mafia group.
Later, returning from Dutta's residence the minister visited the Jaypur wetland which was in the centre of a controversy and asked the district police to keep a regular observation to save it. But there was no assurance to solve the murder case! |
