'US, KSA, Israel fuel Iraq terrorism'
Tue Jul 19, 2011 3:17PM GMT
The United States, Saudi Arabia and Israel provide money and training to terrorist groups in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region to fight Iran, says an analyst.
"The United States has so many allies in the area, in the Middle East: one of them is Saudi Arabia...who has a lot of money and can provide the training and help to these groups of people," says Jafar Hassan, Middle East analyst, in an interview with Press TV.
He went on to say that "Israel has been involved for a long time in these activities...there were reports years ago that the Mossad has bases in Kurdistan and, I think, still have them... some of the rebels have been trained in Israel."
"Israel, the United States and Saudi Arabia are fighting Iran together as a group, and they are planning against Iran," Hassan said.
Members of the terrorist PJAK group -- an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) -- regularly engage in armed clashes with Iranian security forces along the country's western borders with Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
The Saudi Wahhabis - an extremely intolerant interpretation of Islam - also known as Salafis, have also been blamed for fueling and funding terrorism against Shia Muslims.
Saudi Arabia also supported former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during the eight years of war between Iran and Iraq in the 1980s.
