Justice Sachar admits he attended Fai's program in US

Lucknow: Caught in the controversy over his participation in the US events funded by Pakistani agency ISI through an American citizen Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai to push Pakistan's subversive agenda over the Kashmir conflict, Justice (retd) Rajinder Sachar admitted on Saturday that he attended the events organised by Fai in US but was ignorant about his credentials.
Sachar, who was in the city, also favours accepting the Line of Control (LoC) as international boundary in Kashmir dispute. "We need to be pragmatic and practical over Kashmir issue. It is a fact that you cannot take forcibly the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and also cannot hand them our Kashmir. So the only way left is to accept LoC as international boundary and settle the matter. Both the countries cannot wage a war and giving rhetoric statements is the only way left," said Sachar.
Regarding the events organised by Fai in US and his participation he remarked: "Yes I along with Kuldeep Nayyar attended them. We were invited by them and so we went there. I was totally ignorant about the credentials of Fai and his ISI links. I cannot be termed anti-national for this folly." He also claimed that it was due to his presence, Fai was not able to pursue anti-India agenda during the meet and the resolution adopted during the meet was changed. "I strongly objected to the demand for referendum in the resolution passed during the meetings and it was dropped. In fact it was due to our effort that the case of migrant Kashmiri pundits was taken up in the resolution. The resolution stated that provisions should be made for their safe return to the valley," he added.
Sachar maintained that government was also not aware of Fai's credentials. "I hold a diplomatic passport and when I go abroad I inform the government. Even then they kept silent and did not inform me about anything," he claimed. Terming the incident as USA's double policy he remarked: "Any function organised by Fai in US was not possible without America's help. They were held in Congress house and US senator inaugurated them. Overnight when things changed between US and Pakistan after Osama's death, Fai is being named as ISI agent by US. It is a planned conspiracy similar to Headley who was a double agent of both USA and Pakistan but emerged only when interests of US were harmed."
Responding to a query, Rajindar Sachar also supported Anna Hazare's movement for Lokpal and stated that PM should be within the purview of Lokpal but the judiciary can be checked by a separate Judicial Commission. He refused to comment on Sachar Committee report on the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in India. "It is against judicial decorum to comment on that document. It is for you all to keep tab on the government's work," he said. He, however, favoured that Muslims who are engaged in similar profession as other dalits should be treated as Scheduled Caste and given benefits. "This have even recommended in my report that muslims are worse than dalits," he said.
