Kolkata: There is no relief for people in parts of Kolkata even though the intensity of rain lessened today after an extremely heavy downpour on Friday.
Two boats have been pressed into service at the police lines in Alipore, due to severe waterlogging in the area. The boats have been plying since Friday and were also in action on Saturday morning.
Over the last 24 hours, Kolkata has received 154 mm rainfall, the highest for any single day in June in the last decade.
Several streets in the city were waterlogged on Friday and people had a tough time through the day.
Twelve incoming flights to the N S C B International airport at Kolkata were diverted on Friday due to inclement weather, airport sources said.
