Subject: Electoral Reforms Nearing
We have booked Bon Hoeffer Hotel in Berlin for the Workshop of Electoral Systems Experts in Berlin from 17 to 19 October 2011. Besides Walter and myself, Thomas Hirsch has also agreed to join the efforts in the organizing the Workshop. Quite good response till now! Experts drawn from all over the world will work on a 'tailor-made' Proportionate Electoral System for India.
In the meantime we are all happy that the Government of India is planning to bring about a comprehensive Electoral Reforms Bill in the near future. In the concluding session in Guwahati Dr. Nara Singh, the North East Coordinator of CERI was a key figure. It may not be yet time for the entire India to converge on Proportionate Electoral System. But soon India will choose it.
Delhi will soon see a Conference for elected members of the Parliament. This will be on 09 August. We are happy that Shri Ramdas Athavale of the Republican Party of India and CERI have joined hands to organize this event in Delhi. Anil Gayikwad and Vivek Sakpal are working a little overtime on this with Athavale Ji. It will take place in the Constitution Club between 03 and 06 p.m. on 09 August. Do not miss it.
iCONGO's Jeroninio Almeida has come forward to render all support to CERI in the Campaign all over the country. He is a crusader for democracy. He organized a big Conference on Electoral Reforms around the same time that CERI was launched in an International Conference. This was in 2008. It is a natural convergence now. iCONGO and CERI will organize a Delhi State Conference on 10 August in Delhi, the next day of the elected members Conference. We hope other endeavours at electoral reforms in India and CERI will also soon converge as the issues at stake are common.
The Core Group of CERI and all State Coordinators will meet on 05 and 06 of July to consolidate its strategies to take the issue of Proportionate Electoral System in India to the corridors of Indian Parliament.
Ahammad Bhai, our State Coordinator for West Bengal is organizing the State Conference on 27 and 28 of June in Kolkotta. The venue is Moulali Yuva Kendra, Sealdah Kolkata West Bengal. All are welcome. It promises to be a big event.
Meghalaya will have its State Conference on 02 and 03 of July in Shillong. Goa will have a State Conference in August.
Nepal also will have a national conference on Proportionate Electoral System in the next two months together with CERI.
