Iranian Americans Seriously Concerned About Journalist Dorothy Parvaz Detained in Syria BY PAAIA STAFF May 4, 2011, Washington, D.C. - PAAIA and the Iranian American community at large are seriously concerned about the fate of Dorothy Parvaz, an Iranian American journalist for Al Jazeera's English-language channel, who according to recent media reports was detained in Syria on Friday, April 29, 2011.  Parvaz was born in Iran to an Iranian father and an American mother. She received her master's degree in journalism from the University of Arizona, and was a 2009 Neiman Fellow at Harvard University. Omar's successes in Richardson are bound to have an impact on future generations of Iranian Americans seeking public office in Texas and throughout the United States.   Full Article » The Department of Homeland Security Suspends NSEERS Program BY PAAIA STAFF April 29, 2011, Washington, D.C. - The Department of Homeland Security announced the end of the controversial National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS) program on Thursday, April the 28th.       The Department of Homeland Security explained, in a Federal Register Notice, that the program was abolished because new automated technology renders the NSEERS unnecessary and no longer cost-effective.
