Training Programme for Immigration Officials Concludes
New Delhi: June 24, 2010
The secretary Ministry of Tourism Shri Sujit Banerjee has called upon the Immigration officials to maintain highest standards of courtesy and warmth while receiving visitors at the airports.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the 2nd 10 - day training programme for the Immigration Officials in New Delhi today he said,being the first point of interaction for the tourists ,immigration officials create first impression about the country and its people , therefore ,they should maintain a tourist friendly approach and smiling face all the time. Shri Banerjee said,the CWG 2010 will have a long term impact on tourism and hospitality sector so it should be collective effort of all of us to put best foot forward to showcase the spirit of "Atithi Devo Bhavah".
150 officials attended the training programme.
As part of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India's constant endeavour to provide a quality everlasting experience to the tourists in India, a programme to train the immigration officials was envisaged in the year 2009. The first training programme was held from the 10th of September to 19th September 2009, wherein 127 immigration officials were trained.
The immigration officials play a very important role in the overall experience of the tourists in our country as they represent the first face of the country and we only get one chance to make the first impression. Immigration officials mostly are from the police background and hence have a totally different orientation than that required in the service industry – tourism. The prime objective of the training is to focus on enhancement in the behavioural aspects of the immigration officials.
The officials work in a very tough environment having duty shifts of 12 hours without off duty time, but they are the public face of "Incredible India". So much depends on their appearance, deportment, alertness, sensitivity, and general behaviour. IITTM has been conducting this training covering the important aspects of tourism and the behavioural aspects like cross cultural communications, manners, etiquettes, positive attitude, group behaviour, handling stress, time management etc.
Overall this training programme will lead to an improvement in the personality and the thought process of the officials and make them more sensitive towards the tourists.

NCC Expedition flagged in
New Delhi: June 24, 2010
The NCC Cadets achieved a rare feet summitting Gangotri-I peak at a height of approximate 22,000 feet. A group of 14 NCC boy Cadets led by Major KS Dhami, summitted the peak on 17th of this month. The group encountered adverse weather conditions including heavy snow fall and blizzards during the course of the expedition, however, their tenacity and able leadership saw them surmounting all challenges.
This is for the first time that NCC cadets have scaled Gangotri-I. Though the height is about 22,000 feet, it is technically a challenging and interesting peak.
The expedition was 'flagged in' by the Defence Secretary Shri Pradeep Kumar in New Delhi, today. He lauded the young members for their display of the mountaineering skills, indomitable spirit and outstanding leadership qualities.
Earlier in his welcome address, Lt Gen RK Karwal, DGNCC welcomed the NCC expedition team and gave out an account of future adventure activities plans of the NCC.
