Lucknow: A resolution by Chief Minister Mayawati to split up Uttar Pradesh into four smaller states was passed by voice vote in the assembly on Monday amid uproar. The move on the opening day of the winter session comes ahead of the 2012 elections in the state. Disorder marked the opening day. Within seconds of its commencement, almost the entire opposition in both houses rose up to unanimously demand the ouster of the Mayawati government.  The assembly was adjourned till 12.20 p.m. Terming the government as "most corrupt", opposition members in both houses went on raising slogans against the Mayawati regime. The Samajwadi Party proposes to move a no-confidence motion against the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BSP) has assured its support for it.
