Director: Patricia Plattner
(94m/Color/French)
Christelle, a hairdresser whose husband beats her, runs away after a violent
quarrel. She ends up in a dilapidated motel called the Galaxy, frequented by
truck drivers and travelling salesmen. Mona, the owner, a loveable and
bubbly widow, takes Christelle under her wing and helps her to rekindle an
interest in life. They both become passionately devoted to a TV soap opera,
The Ranch of Love. Christelle has to deal with the return of her husband. But
thanks to Mona and this new environment she discovers her creative talents.
She meets new people, and experiences new sensuality, desire and love in
the arms of Lucien, a young truck driver. Torn between a longing for
independence and her new amorous commitments she becomes a
peripatetic hairdresser roaming the countryside… until the day when Mona,
Lucien and the last episode of her favourite TV serial open up unexpected
new horizons

Mein Name ist Eugen (Rascals on the Road, 2005)
Director: Michael Steiner
(100m/Color/Swiss German)
From the literary classic by Klaus Schädelin, Mein Name ist Eugen is a coming
of age story set in the 1960s, and tells of 12-year-old Eugen and Wrigley's last
summer of adventure. When Wrigley's parents announce their intention to
pack him off to boarding school, the boys run away, hoping to find Fritzli
Bühler, the "King of Rascals" in Zurich. But then Eugen and Wrigley bump into
their Scouts group on the train and feel forced to join them to Ticino. From
there they escape again and attempt to get back to Zurich, but the boys'
disappearance is noticed and their parents get on their trail. As the boys
continue their precarious journey over their Alps, they begin to doubt
whether Fritzli Bühler really lives in Zurich and whether he actually exists
at all.

Vitus (2006)
Director: Fredi Murer
(120m/Color/Swiss German)
Vitus is a boy who almost seems to be from another planet: He has hearing
powers of a bat, he plays piano like a virtuoso and studies encyclopedias at
the age of five. No wonder his parents begin to anticipate a brilliant future for
him. They want Vitus to become a pianist. However, the little genius prefers
to play in his eccentric grandfather's workshop. He dreams of flying and of a
normal childhood. Ultimately, with one dramatic leap, Vitus takes control of
his own life…

Mon frère se marie (My Brother's Wedding, 2006)
Directors: Jean-Stéphane Bron,
(95m/Color/French)
Vinh, a Vietnamese refugee, was adopted 20 years earlier by a Swiss family
and is now about to get married. His Vietnamese mother seizes this
opportunity to finally meet the family that loved and raised her son, and to
meet the people who write her postcards every Christmas telling her that the
whole family is united and thinking of her. But things are not quite going the
way these messages imply and the unexpected visit of Mrs Nguyen is going to
cause some agitation in the family. They are now going to have to act out the
forgotten roles of father, wife, brother and sister… to play the fragile comedy
of happiness.

complex social and political discourses through his unique blend of
folk wisdom, symbolism and subversion of traditional power
structures of land ownership, represe- ntation and sexuality.
Dr. Kambara's native "Shivapura" is, simultaneously, a real and
mythical place and ground for such negotiation.
Dr Kambara's very success and recognition are in testimony to the
possibilities, complexity and depth of the folk narrative. The Jnanpith
Award to Dr Kambara, the 8th for the Kannada language, is a tribute to
the range and imagination of the literature of Karnataka. Many of Dr
Kambara's works have been adapted for cinema, some of which he has
directed - Karimayi, Sangeeta and Kadu Kudure.

Filip buys an 8-mm movie camera when his first child is born. Because it's the

boss. His horizons widen when he is sent to regional film festivals with his first
works but his focus on movie making also leads to domestic strife and
philosophical dilemmas. (IMDb)
It's 1982: Poland is under martial law, and Solidarity is banned. Ulla, a
translator working on Orwell, suddenly loses her husband, Antek, an
attorney. She is possessed by her grief, and Antek continues to appear to her.
She seeks to free herself in her work, in her relationship with her son, in sex,
and in hypnosis. In a subplot, Ulla refers the wife of one of her husband's
clients Darek, a jailed Solidarity strike organizer to Labrador, a world-weary,
aging attorney, who works to free Darek by various political manipulations
and psychological ploys. (IMDb)

WikiLeaks has become world famous in record time after having made the
biggest disclosure of classified information in history. There has been a
dramatic increase in the amount of information available to the world about
everything from torture in the war in Iraq to the shady business dealings of
Icelandic bankers.
But few know anything about what drives WikiLeaks or about its mysterious
founder Julian Assange, declared a hero by some and accused of everything
from espionage to rape by others. Who are the people behind WikiLeaks and
how did they get where they are today?

Directors: Jesper Huor,
Bosse Lindquist (58m/2010/Sweden)
The film shares special moments that the filmmaker experienced with his
camera, a special bonding over a period of 4 years, in terms of creating
cinematic imagery, relating, exploring, seeking and interpreting notions of
his reality. It is a memory of a camera which perished in the Tsunami, along
with its last filmed footage. It's last recorded footage, an elusive image,
evoking multiple possibilities, seeking parallels and new perspectives.

The Marichjhanpi incident is one of the darkest episodes of CPI(M) led
government of West Bengal. The refugees who were roped by the CPI(M)
were betrayed after the elections. The settlement established by refugees in
the Marichjhanpi island of Sunderban was dealt with iron fists by the West
Bengal govt who deemed it' illegal'. Subsequently they were brutally
evicted by the police and hired mercenaries who butchered the resisting
people, raped the women and burnt down entire settlements. (canvaspix.
On the morning of April 30, 1982, a nun and 16 Ananda Marga monks were
dragged out of taxis by cadres of CPI(M) the rulng party of West Bengal in
Kolkata's southern suburbs. They were beaten and then set on fire. The
killings were witnessed by thousands of people. However, not a single arrest
has been made till date. (canvaspix.wordpress.com)

OTHELLO
Othello has been dated to between mid-1601 and mid-1602. One important
source for Othello was Philemon Holland's translation of Pliny's, Historie of
the World, published in 1601. There are several echoes of Othello in the first
quarto of Hamlet, published in 1603. These suggest that Othello must have
been written by early 1603, and probably before July 1602 when Hamlet was
entered on the Stationers' Register. (www.bl.uk)
