Sunday, 12 June took place in London an important initiative of the International Committee Against the War on People in India (ICAWPI).

About 500 people crowded the hall of the Friends House in London and attended with attention and participation, even emotional, at the program.
On the walls of the room stood out two large banners signed ICAWPI with pictures of the struggles of the Adivasi people, the fierce war on people unleashed by the regime in India, the many initiatives of solidarity held around the world. There were also the posters of the campaign "week of solidarity" that the International Committee to Support the People's War in India had posted throughout Europe and around the world and the slide-show that in the same week had been used in Italy.

The movie
The program started with a short movie realized with the collaboration of several Indian progressive intellectuals, filmmakers and musicians. Pictures, notes, songs and voices that well explained the reasons and the barbarism of the assault against the forests people in India and gave voice to their cry of resistance in defense of their land, for a future of dignity and self-liberation for all the peoples of India, against a system based on annihilation and exploitation of men, women and nature in the name of profit and a "development" that provides wealth for few, and perpetual dependence, semi-colonial oppression and caste.

The introduction
On behalf of the organizers, a representative if the ICAWPI presented the speakers and the aims of the campaign the program in London was part of, following many large and small initiatives realized all around the world to stop the war on people in India that has been raging since 2009, with massive use of troops, weapons, and unprecedented ferocity and.
A real genocide perpetrated with the political support of U.S. and European powers to defend the interests of the great monopolies which have invested billions in projects to exploit the natural resources of India. Against this war ICAWPI supports the unyielding resistance of the Adivasi people, but also of all the progressive and truly democratic part of society in India.
In the field of media, the battle to be fought is to break the silence that covers the operation Green Hunt, hiding a scenario of military occupation of vast areas of the country, deportation, genocide and civil war.

Jan Myrdal
This was followed by the Swedish writer Jan Myrdal's speech, the author of an interview to the general secretary of the CPI (Maoist) in the guerrilla zone, published in the book "Red Star over India.".
Myrdal has defined the operation Green Hunt as the largest uprising and massacre of native peoples since the days of Columbus. Indeed, the assault to plunder the resources of the forests is a real re-colonization by the State born from the formal independence from British colonialism, made in the interests of foreign big monopolies and capitalist powers and the cartels of big national companies.
Against all this it is urgent to mobilize a large international solidarity, which already is being done in so many countries. His speech tried to give a contribution with a direct witness of the struggle and achievements that go on in the guerrilla zones to build "green infrastructures", respectful of the equilibrium of the earth and the interests of the peoples who live there, very different from those who want to impose neo-colonial relations of exploitation. He also spoke about the experiences of solidarity which are developing in the world.

Nepal Solidarity Forum
Comrade Kolash, representative of the Nepalese in Europe, pointed out that the ultimate expression of democracy are the struggling people around the world, against regimes that oppress them, even if formally elected by a majority of voters. These solidarity and struggle unite the people of India and Nepal. His speech briefly traced the long history of unequal treaties, supporting the monarchy and regimes oppressing the people, through which the Indian state has imposed its expansion in Nepal as in all other countries in the region, where no regime could maintain itself without actually be backed by the powerful Indian neighbor.

Messages to the conference
Between a speech and the other, the chairman read messages and greetings to the assembly from various parts of the world, particularly that of Comrade Basanta, a member of the United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), an invited speaker who was not able to reach London. In his message Basanta recalled how the people and only the people of India is the true owner of those lands and resources that the Indian state wants to sell out to imperialism and the big companies of the Indian bourgeoisie. For this reason the international campaign of solidarity must take an anti-imperialist, anti-reactionary and anti-expansionist carachter, that can unite people in India and the world against the common enemies.
Other messages came from Atik, union of Turkish workers in Europe, from the Committee of Solidarity with the peoples of India Eastern, Canada, fron Italian organizations that support the ICAWPI, CARC Party, ASP and Anti-Imperialist Camp.

Arundhati Roy
Who attended in the initiatives in Italy of the international week of mobilization in support of the people's war had the chance to watch TV interviews release by the Arundhati Roy, and appreciate the human and intellectual strength of his testimony, the simple and attractive way with which she makes the reasons and the importance for everyone to take a stand in defence of Indian people.
Live, in the empathy with an audience, this potential is multiplied.
With her keen eyes that seemed to cross to each of attending, Arundhati Roy has unmasked with simplicity and even humor, what the Western powers try to rhow as their "blue-eyed toy", the "largest democracy the world ", the India.
Indeed, if, as today we see, wars of aggression and occupation to export democracy are complementing the large Western democracies, then India, with the occupation of Kashmir, the silent complicity in the genocide of the Tamils, the Operation Green Hunt, is a democracy really great ...
The reality is that in India there is democracy, rights, privileges of caste for a narrow elite, there is economic growth and wealth for a thin middle class while for the rest of the people, a vast mass of poor, dalits, adivasis, there is denial of any right, even to life or the identity.
Instead of a blue-eyed toy, A. Roy drew a picture of a glass of milk left to settle: a very thin surface layer of foam that smells of rancid - the elites - then an inch of thick cream - the middle classes - and the rest of the glass is water - those who have nothing. Of the approximately one billion Indians, 830 million are those who live with less than 50 cents of dollar a day.
Then she told how difficult it is to eradicate the prejudice positive on India. During a conference a woman said: "You speak ill of your country, a country that respects your freedom, in which you can go around and write freely ... Do you know that if you had born in China you could not write and would be in jail? " Arundhathi Roy replied:" It is true that if I were in China I could not write a book like Broken Republic. But in India, if I were not the world renowed writer called Arundhati Roy, winner of the Booker Prize, I would be already in jail ... "
Several times she read excerpts from "walking with the comrades," completing the reading by giving details of moments when she wrote them, and how that experience has changed herself and way of seeing things.
About Maoists she said: "it is impossible to distinguish them from the adivasis: 90% of the Maoist guerrillas are adivasi, their resistance is the elder than the Maoist movement, but it would bot be what it is today without the action of the Maoists, and in turn the Maoists are not those of 40 years ago, they and their struggle would not be what they are today without the adivasis ".
On the struggle that crosses all over India through the "red corridor" she said: "While armed struggle is developed in the jungle, primarily as armed resistance to the raids that destroy villages and deport the inhabitants, in the cities there is uprising. It is not armed struggle, if the Maoists waged armed struggle in the cities they would be wiped out, in the physical sense of the word, but uprising."
In conclusion, she said that this battle "goes to the heart of the world", in its own way it is a "clash of civilizations" that sees on one hand a "civilization" that denies the people the right to exist in the name of the "development", on the other that of an ancient people having, however, "the key that opens the future" .

Questions and answers and the intervention of the International Committee to Support PW
The program ended with a series of questions from the audience. So many questions on how you can actually help stop the genocide, on the relationship between the Maoists and the other forces of the "left", on her experience in guerrilla zones, on the Maoists, the role of women in guerrilla warfare. She saw many women guerrilla fighters and playng role of responsibility among the ranks of the Maoists. It is estimated that 90,000 women are organized with the Maoists, but the 'professional feminists' in the country who welcome with enthusiasm the work of NGOs and projects to transform women into entrepreneurs who compete in the market simply ignore what can be called the strongest feminist organization in the country (the Maoists) and are silent on front of killing, tortures, rapes that the operation Green Hunt unchained against them.
Among the questions and answers and has found a place the intervention of the Italian representative of the International Committee in support of the people's war in India, he said the success, exceeding all expectations, of the international week, thanked A. Roy for the great contribution to the campaign, through her video-interviews and invited to Italy for a round of meetings to be organized in autumn.
His intervention was clear: we have always supported and propagated ICAWPI initiatives, translated and widespread their materials but, as Maoists in different countries, we felt the need to do more, to go beyond the exposure of the crimes of the operation Green Hunt - the war on people - to highlight the revolution that advances in India - the people's war - whose victory can change the balance of power and open a new page in the history of the world, giving a sign for all peoples struggling, even in the imperialist countries.
Finally, future initiatives were presented by the International Committee: a new campaign in defence of the comrades of the Central Committee of CPI (M) imprisoned and a large international conference in support in preparation for the coming months.
