This afternoon, I was still engaged in reading the Details of the Rich Parliamntarians in the Nation of Have Not PEEPLI Live Slum Dogs People Indigenous Aboriginal in Economic Times and other Morning dailies and stunned to see that Some Parties like NCP, RLD, TRS have all the COROREPATI MPs, Congress more than Seventy percent and BJP Fifty percent and the Flag bearers of the CHANGE in Bengal led by Honest Poor Looking Mamata Matua Banerjee  have no less than THIRTEEN out of NINETEN Cororepati  MPs from  the land of Singur, Marichjhanpi, Nandigram, Lalgarh and Gorlkaland! Alok Verma, my journalist Friend working in Amar Ujala, Chandigargh called me on phone and informed that GIRDA is in critical Condition. He got the information as they have published an all editions news item this morning.

Immediately I Called back to Naintal Samachar. It was RIGING and Ringing and NO RESPONSE! I tried all the Mobile Numbers available. NO Response. I tried Zahoor AAlam at home and working place. No Response.

It was just like to be shocked by High Voltage.

Me and Sabita were in Tension of all the Hells!

Then, suddenly , I could knock Harish Pant on his Mobile! He was right in the Hospital!

Sushila Tiwari Cancer Hospital in Haldwani.

So stunned was he that I had to introduce myself again and again and only than he responded and informed that the Operation was just finished. It was NOT Official but he has got the message that the Operation was Successful but the Patient has not returned to senses.

GIRDA had been serious for days. he has high BP.Already have suffered Heart  Attacks. He had an ULCER Blast and it was infectious. Though the Operation was RISKY, they had to try!

Harish  abruptly ended the call and I could not get him back.

I immediately informed my DSB Friend Film Maker rajeev Katiyar and asked him to try to be in touch with Home, Nainital!

At Home, Sabita is ILL once agin and have all the symptoms she had just before her Open heart surgery in 1995 as she had  a Tumour in the Heart. I have NOTHING these day, NOT the Money, Property or Connection! More over, I am myself am NOT so well as SUGAR level remains always HIGH! I may just imagine the Trauma HERA BHABHI is suffering from!

If I earnt all the Ideologies and Theories from my Guruji Tara Chandra Tripathi, I had all the lessons of Commitment, Concern and Aesthetics from Girda.

Me and kapilesh Bhoj made the Trio with aged Girda who was an Artist in Song and Drama Divison of Nainital. He was an excellent ANCHOR of any Programme at that time. He was the master of Uttarakhandi Folk and a  recognised poet.He was always rooted in Grass Roots. He was the force behind dramatic activities so intense in Nainital in those days incepted by BM Sah, Lenin Pant, Mohan Thaplial, BB Karanth and National School of Drama, New Delhi with loacal units of YUGMANCH and Ekayan. We played so many Street plays from Badal Sarkar, Dharmaveer Bharati, Bharatendu to Brechsht!

It was the peak of CHIPKO movement in which all of us were involved.

It was Emergency which we Opposed!

It was UTTARAKHAND Movement and Uttarakhand Sngharsh Bahini Nationality and Identity time.

The Elite Brahamin from Almora disowned by his father for adoting SHUDRA ways of life with HUDKA in hand, was the heart and mind of all our activities.

Then, it was PAHAR and NAINITAL SAMACHAR Time. We made another trio. GIRDA in the Centre and SHEKHAR Pathak and me.

We spent days and nights to invent form and style, aesthetics and diction for Grass Root Reporting in the Hills and plains!

Girda was THRASHED in a Bus at RUDRAPUR, the SIDCUL City now just after we reported PANT NGAR University Genocide in April 1978. GIRDA, ME and SHEKHAR Pathak were the authors!

I have left the Himalayas like many more others! But GIRDA remained there. He was just a Vagabond in the real sense as he had NO routine at all and used to be indulged in  Music , Poetry and Wine.He had no family.

Girda used to live with a Nepali Porter and his young son, Pema! Pradeep Tamta, the  congress MP from Almora and Nirmal Joshi, the late High Court advocate and his wife Pushpa would make the perfect team. In Samachar, our discussions were so wild that the Editor Rajiv Locahan  Sah would would escape and the Neighbouring COLONEL would pick up the Rifle to silence us. PC Tiwari from Almora, Balam Singh Janauti, Raja Bahuguna, our leader SHAMSHER Singh Bisht, Chipko Icons like Chandi Prasad Bhatt and Sundar Lal Bahuguna, Batrohi, VIPIN Tripthi, the late MLA from Dwarahat, Narayan Singh Jantwal and Kashi Singh Airy, both leaders and Ex MLAs or sitting MLAs, Jagat Ram  Beri, late Economist Chandresh Shashtri, Uttara editor Uma Bhatt, late Fredrick Smetchec, Bhagat da, Parmar, Zahoor, Yugmanch team,Pankaj Bisht and Anand Swarup Verma from Delhi, Biren Dangwal  from Bareilly, Naveen Joshi from Lucknow and so many more would make us a solid team. Pawan rakesh and Harish Pant had to make up for all this Hungama as Rajiv Katiyar had also joined us as Silent Observer!

We spent often the COOL Nights in the Snow fall weather in Nainital Winter in GIRDA`s room under a single QUILT and boys and girls togther!It was NEVER cool in studies or interactions, Activities. Later, he was maried very late. But HIRBHABHI Disciplined the Poet to most satisfactory level. Sabita calims that it just because of Heerabhabhi that GIRDA survived till this date otherwise his lifestyle did NOT have any SURVIVAL Kit.

Girda hated most OPPORTUNISM, Changing fences and Career as we used to do. He hated the UPROOTED Educated People.

None of us read AMBEDKAR but we believed in DECLASSING ourselves as TRUE Marxists.

Girda despised DETACHEDNESS, APATHY and Exclusion all the way. He was always in favour of Folk Forms in Literature and art!

We just tried our best to replicate him. But he stayed back in nainital and only ZAHOOR Alam could follow him only.

Last time, Rajiv Kumar did unite all the Old Boys of the Thundering seventies in Banaras as a cast and Crew of  a feature Film , his directorial Debut, VASEEYAT based on the story of Bhagwati Charan Verma.

I had to write the Script, Screenplay and Dialogues! I had to be in the unit during the shooting and even faced the Camera.

It was a celebration times as the people like Poet Gyanendra Pati and Story writer Kashinath Singh and Film Star Late Nirmal Joshi would join us. GIRDA played the role of Janardan Joshi and ZAHOR the eldest son of the Philosoher! IDRIS, DK and every Yugmanch Boy except Harish pant was there!

Then we met agin in Kolkata for the dubbing!

I have NOT visted Nainital for years! But GIRDA always remained there and had always fought for Nationality and Identity! He is the face of wounded Himalayas Bleeding!

Let us pary that he should CURE as soon as Possible! Hirabhabhi deserves the Company of her Poet Anarchist Husband so much so! Their only Son is perhaps younger than our own only Son, TUSSU!

The Union Cabinet has cleared a 300 percent salary hike for Members of Parliament, from current Rs 16,000 to Rs 50,000. Not only this, the perks given to MPs have also been doubled. But the "minimal" hike has completely failed to appease our dear MPs, who sought Rs 80,001 salary per month as recommended by a parliamentary committee.


Money rules! It does, certainly. Politics has become a huge money-making business in India. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the number of crorepati MPs has increased from 156 in 2004 to 315 in 2009.


The non-governmental organisation further noted in its report that the average worth of assets of an MP in the Lower House has increased from Rs 1.86 crore to Rs 5.33 crore in the last five years. How does the bank balance of our politicians go up when the living conditions of the poor and the common man continue to go down?


Just compare and contrast: There are more poor people in eight Indian states (421 million in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal) than in the 26 poorest African countries combined (410 million). The statistics were revealed with the help of a new measure called the Multidimensional Poverty Index, which was developed and applied by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative with UNDP support.


In 2009, Vandana Shiva of NGO Navdanya had said that India has emerged as the world's capital of hunger with 214 million hungry people.


More than 70% of India's under-five children are anaemic.


The Tata Institute of Social Sciences noted last year that two out of three of India's 1.1 billion people still live and work in rural areas and as many as 1,50,000 debt-hit farmers have killed themselves in the past decade.



Skyrocketing food prices and surging inflation have further dashed the hopes of India's 'aam junta'.


Our politicians are unhappy with the salary hike and our citizens are dissatisfied with MPs' performance. "Netas get salary, then they make under-the-table money with the help of the position they hold, then they get official allowances. They are robbing our taxes everyday, and we can't do anything," said a neighbour of mine, who was angry with the sad state of affairs of this country.


I am not against a pay hike for MPs. But some standards should be set for raising the salaries. According to the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), the per capita income, a measure of average income of a citizen, was recorded at Rs 37,490 per annum during 2008-09. The common man is not even entitled to free flights, first-class air-conditioned train travel, free accommodation and several other benefits as our politicians are.


It is interesting to note that the upcoming CWG in Delhi is in the news due to corruption, leaky stadiums, dodgy money transfers, inferior equipment. Have we ever wondered how our athletes are preparing for the games? Recently, Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna had threatened to pull out of the Games because they were not paid for its preparations. The CWG was heard to be running out of funds. Despite this, politicians are less interested in sorting this issue, but to fill their own pockets.


Indian democracy has become the government of the RICH, by the POOR and for the MONEY.

Peace in parliament as deadlock over salary over

The deadlock over MPs' salary hike ended Saturday after the government's known trouble-shooter Pranab Mukherjee met Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh Yadav, who are unhappy with the three-fold increase and are demanding a 500 percent raise.

Finance Minister Mukherjee met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh.

It was not known what agreement the government has reached with the MPs opposing the 300 percent hike, but there was no protest in the Lok Sabha Saturday. Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh had Friday led demonstrations in the house stalling the proceedings and forcing repeated disruptions over the issue.
The RJD chief told reporters in Parliament House that the matter regarding the MPs salary hike has been 'resolved'. 'The house will now function as per rules,' he said.

The salary hike bill cleared by the cabinet Friday was supposed to be introduced in the Lok Sabha Saturday but wasn't included in the revised list of business.
The bill seeks to raise an MP's salary from Rs.16,000 to Rs.50,000 and double their perks, but
parliamentarians from various parties were dissatisfied and said it was less than the Rs.80,001 as recommended by a parliamentary committee.

50,000 displaced in Assam floods

Heavy monsoon rains triggered flash floods in Assam Saturday, displacing at least 50,000 people in the state's Lakhimpur district, officials said. No casualties have been reported.
A government spokesperson said floodwaters of Singora river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra river, entered at least 40 villages forcing residents to take shelter on raised platforms and railway tracks.
'There has been a breach of about 20 to 30 metres in two embankments and that led to floodwaters entering human settlements,' a district official said.
'So far, there are no reports of casualties in the floods. Measures are being taken to plug the breaches in the mud embankments.
'We have sounded maximum alert and have already kept disaster management teams on standby. We are also taking stock of essentials and other commodities in the district,' the official added.
Locals blamed the authorities for swindling central funds for strengthening embankments.
'Huge amount of money sanctioned by the central government for construction and repair works of embankments were pocketed by contractors and officials and the result is that one big push breaches the mud dykes,' said Dharanidhar Das, a local resident.
The 2,906-km-long Brahmaputra is one of Asia's largest rivers and traverses its first stretch of 1,625 km in China's Tibet region, the next 918 km in India and the remaining 363 km through neighbouring Bangladesh before flowing into the Bay of Bengal.

Prime Minister Lalu dismisses UPA govt

New Delhi, Aug. 20 -- If in jest lies a serious undertone, then the Congress won't want to be at the butt of this joke. The first thing Lalu Prasad, 'elected' Prime Minister for an hour in the well of the House, did was to dismiss Manmohan Singh and his government.
In an event unprecedented in the House, 75 protesting MPs ran their own mock Parliament after Lok Sabha was adjourned following disruptions. Even in this pretend Parliament, under all the fun and games, there were subtle shades of unrealised political ambition.
The PM's post wasn't held just by Lalu, a second PM was also elected - the other half of the Yadav brotherhood - Mulayam Singh. BJP leader Gopinath Munde was made the speaker - junior party colleague Kirti Azad leader of opposition. That post in the real Parliament is held by Sushma Swaraj.
The mock Parliament also rejected the Bills passed earlier in the day by the UPA government. "We dismissed the UPA government because it was undemocratic and anti-people. I was elected Prime Minister for today. I heard the views of the 'House' and the people's government decided to reject outright the bills cleared today," Prasad said.
But Lalu being Lalu, he and fellow MPs have planned another mock session.

Fennell asks for probe into graft allegations

Voicing his concern over the allegations of corruption in the preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2010, Mike Fennell, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, in New Delhi on Thursday, called for a thorough probe as per the law of the land. Fennell on Thursday monitored and assessed the preparations for the mega event to be held in the capital in October.

Meanwhile, he expressed satisfaction over the progress of the preparations for the Games. Fennel also hailed India's security preparedness for the event.

Rains pound North & South India, elude WB

Torrential rains today pounded North and South India killing eight people and disrupting normal life, even as 11 districts of West Bengal were declared drought-hit. Six people died and as many injured as a house collapsed on them due to heavy rains overnight at Dabarkot village in Uttarakhand''s Uttarakashi district.
A tourist died in the same district when a boulder rolling down from a hill fell on him. The national capital received another spell of heavy rains resulting in the water level of Yamuna breaching the danger mark and flowing 11 cm above it.
The city recorded 17.4 mm of rains during a period between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Heavy showers also resulted in the maximum temperature dropping to 28.4 degree Celsius from yesterday''s 31.7 deg C, which is six degrees below normal.
The weatherman has predicted similar conditions for tomorrow with a few spells of rain or thundershowers and one or two heavy spells in some areas. Moderate to heavy rains lashed most places in Punjab and Haryana with 50 villages alongside the river Yamuna in Sonepat district continuing to remain on high alert for the fourth consecutive day.
Chandigarh was drenched by 86.9 mm of rain. In Haryana, rains lashed Sonepat (45 mm), Gurgaon (12 mm), Kalka (20 mm), Panchkula (15 mm) and other places.
In Punjab, Mohali recorded 55 mm rain followed by Ropar at 43 mm and Hoshiarpur at 18 mm. The Met department forecast moderate to rather heavy rain or thunder showers at most places in Haryana and at many places in Punjab in the next two days.
Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur during this period at isolated places in the two states. Monsoon rains remained active in Himachal Pradesh with heavy rains continuing to lash Kangra, Sirmaur, Shimla and Solan districts.
Dharamsala recorded highest rainfall of 100 mm while Renuka and Nahan in Sirmaur received 88 mm and 82 mm of rains respectively. In the southern state of Karnataka, one person was washed away in flash floods triggered off following release of water from Narihall reservoir.
Heavy rain lashed coastal Tamil Nadu affecting normal life with weathermen predicting more thundershowers tomorrow. Fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea as strong offshore winds from Northwesterly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph were likely along south Tamil Nadu coast.
Rain or thundershower would occur in some areas in Chennai, Met officials said. Meanwhile, 11 districts in West Bengal were declared drought affected with the state government allocating Rs 50 crore to tackle the situation caused by a rain deficit of 30 per cent.

Rahul Gandhi in Aligarh, surprises Mayawati, farmers

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Saturday took both the Mayawati government and Aligarh farmers by surprise when he reached Tappal village, the epicentre of peasants' protest demanding enhanced compensation for land acquired for the Yamuna Expressway.
Farmers have been protesting at Tappal for the last three weeks demanding a substantial enhancement in the compensation offered to them for their land acquired to build the 165 km Noida-Agra Yamuna Expressway.
The Gandhi scion first went to the spot at Tappal, where hundreds of farmers from Aligarh and neighbouring districts have been on a round-the-clock sit-in.
Assuring demonstrators of the Congress party's full support, he said that he was with them and would be ready to assist them in their struggle for justice.
He then visited different villages to offer condolence to the families of each of the two victims, including a 12-year-old boy, who were killed in police firing Aug 14.
Undaunted by the heavy downpour in several parts of the region, as also along his 110 km drive from New Delhi, he went from village to village and was greeted warmly by farmers.
The expressway, which is expected to reduce the driving time between New Delhi and Agra to just about 90 minutes, will pass through Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Aligarh, Mahamaya Nagar (Hathras) and Mathura, and involves acquisition of land in 115 villages.
A total of 2,500 hectares is to be acquired for the development of the expressway - 500 hectares each in Noida, Aligarh and Agra and 1,000 hectares in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
The compensation amount was increased from Rs.449 per square metre to Rs.570 per square metre. But farmers refused to budge from the demand for compensation at the rate of Rs.880 per square metre that was paid in Greater Noida.
