Yoga guru Swami Ramdev on Saturday created a major controversy by saying that there should be a law to control the population of a particular community whose population has registered a growth.

Without naming the Muslim community Ramdev said that if not checked the country will be facing the challenges like malnutrition, hunger and illiteracy .

"The population of Hindus and Sikhs has declined and of a particular community increased. This imbalance could creates social, economic and political conflicts and challenges in society," Swami Ramdev said in Kurukshetra during the civic reception of Acharya Dev Vrat who was recently appointed governor of Himachal
Pradesh.

Expressing concern over the decline in the Hindu and Sikh populations, Ramdev said it is indispensable to create a balance between the populations of different communities. Swami Ramdev also said a policy to control the population is the need of the hour.

"Need is being felt to make a law to arrest the growth of the population of a particular community as the population of Hindus and Sikhs is on a downward trend.The government must balance the population by making a population control policy," Swami Ramdev said in Kurukshetra in an event which was also attended by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Ramdev said that the policy to control the population should aim at controlling the population of all religions and should be binding to all religions.The Yoga Guru also suggested to follow the china's one child policy.

"There is  population is growing unevenly.There is a need to adopt a strict policy to balance it.No harm even if we follow China's one child norm," Swami Ramdev said.

The 2011 Census data released last week by the ministry of home affairs had showed that Hindu population declined to 79.8 per cent of the country's 1.2 billion people , from 80.5 per cent recorded in 2001.

The Muslim population which was  13.4 per cent in 2001 has now grown to 14.2 per cent .While the Christian population is just 2.3 percent,Sikh population fell to 1.7 per cent from 1.9 per cent.
