| Calcutta, Jan. 7: Mamata Banerjee today said she was ready to "go alone", as she had done during the Singur and Nandigram movements, and the state Congress could pull out of the Trinamul-led alliance if it wanted to work in tandem with the CPM. "If the Congress wants to be with the CPM, the doors are open. If they join hands with the CPM, they can leave. I will go alone," the chief minister said at Writers' Buildings. "I was alone in Singur, I was alone in Nandigram…. We have come to power with the support and blessings of the people." The trigger for the comments was Thursday's incident at Raiganj, a Congress bastion, where alleged Trinamul supporters assaulted a college principal following a row over student elections. The main accused, Trinamul's North Dinajpur working president Tilak Chowdhury, surrendered in court today following "instructions" from Mamata and was given bail. ( ) Mamata claimed the assault was a conspiracy the Congress hatched with CPM backing. "The CPM and the Congress had jointly carried it out. Money had exchanged hands. I will unearth the truth."
