JOINT APPEAL FOR PEACE
IN KARBI ANGLONG AND DIMASA HASAO DISTRICT OF ASSAM
"LET US WORK FOR PEACE! LET US NOT ALLOW VIOLENCE TO SPREAD!"
We, the persons hailing from different communities of Karbi Anglong and Dimasa Hasao District such as Karbis, Dimasas, Zemi Nagas, Hmars, Kukis, Adivasis, Assamese, Bengalees etc. came together for the seminar at Manja from July 28 to 30,2011 make this statement in a form of an appeal to all.
We, realize that, time and again while we are in conflict, all our basic needs; right to life, right to livelihood, right to education, right to liberty & security, right to freedom of movement and our right to social, economic and political as well as our right to peaceful co-existence have been snatched away. We are forced to live in fear, insecurity and uncertainty. And to rebuild the confidence that we had takes many years.
After three days of fruitful interaction facilitated by HMI,Hyderabad we are convinced that there is not one normal person among us who wants violence and destruction. We support, both in our words and works the power of peace and nonviolence. We invite you all therefore to truly undertake measures of peace towards neighbours and friends, to maintain confidence in one another; to jointly prevent evil which someone else may try to thrust upon us.
Sharing with you the desire for a minimum standard of coexistence for all people in our region our homeland we forward our sincerest brotherly and neighbourly invitation: "LET US WORK FOR PEACE! LET US NOT ALLOW VIOLENCE TO SPREAD!" We beg you all and especially those who are responsible for the fate of innocent people:
Please do not trample upon and destroy that which is most valuable to us - human dignity, neither yours nor anyone else's; Please do not prevent peaceful coexistence as well as mutual respect for all the legitimate rights of every individual among us; Please do not destroy the valuable bridges of mutual, neighbourly, friendly and blood relations!
