JAN SANSAD
Invite to the Third Session: Mumbai, 4th & 5th March, 2011
Dear friends,
Zindabad ! As conveyed earlier the third session of Jan Sansad will be held on March 4, 5 in Mumbai and hosted by Ghar Bachao Ghar Andolan and National Alliance of People's Movements at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. This convention is being held in Mumbai where a strong movement against uprooting slum dwellers, against land grab by city development authority and mafia builder lobby and for housing rights of the working class is going on. A note on the idea of Jan Sansad is attached with this invitation.
The Jan Sansad will be joined by the representatives of the communities in struggle from across the country, intellectuals and other professionals who have stood by the struggle of masses for their right to livelihood and protection of natural resources and for people's development and representatives from different ward sabhas. It will be witnessed by thousands of people who will converge from different bastis from Mumbai, other cities and other struggle areas. After presentation on each of the themes it will be debated by the members of the Sansad and action plans formulated for action in the times to come by the movements and communities who are struggling to build a better world and habitable and equitable cities.
jan Sansad will focus on the issues of equity and accessibility to the resources like food, water, housing, employment, health, education for everyone who lives in the city and not for few who pocket the maximum resources. A blueprint for modern cities will be evolved which will secure dignity for everyone and not at the cost of livelihoods of those who build and run the city – the working class. Lavasa and Adarsh Society can't be the future of cities and urbanisation in a country where 70 percent of people still live in villages and survive on less than a dollar a day.
We do hope you will be able to join us for this important session of the Jan Sansad and help us take another step forward in our collective struggle towards total transformation and for creating a better country and world. After two days of discussion, on March 6th the Jan Sansad members will visit Jaitapur in the nearby district of Ratnagiri where a strong movement against 10,000MV Nuclear Power Plant is going on. You are invited to join us for the Jaitapur visit too and so please make necessary bookings accordingly.
