Shia pro-democracy protesters rally in the Bahraini capital, Manama on February 27, 2011.
Lawmakers from the largest parliamentary bloc in Bahrain have protested at the government-ordered bloodshed of pro-democracy protesters by staging a mass departure.


On Sunday, 18 members of the Shia opposition faction of al-Wefaq officially resigned from the parliament, saying, "We are no longer affiliated with this council (Parliament), which did not lift a finger in front of these massacres," AFP reported.

At least two people have been killed in an industrial town in Oman, after police fired rubber bullets on anti-government protesters.

The military moved in to secure an area in the town of Sohar on Sunday where demonstrators had gathered to demand political reforms, according to witnesses reported by the Reuters news agency.

"Two were killed after being shot with rubber bullets as protesters attempted to storm a police station," a security official said requesting anonymity.

Anti-government protests in the Omani capital of Muscat
Following clashes between Omani security forces and anti-government protesters, a police station and a government building have been set on fire.


The confrontation erupted on Sunday in the northern industrial city of Sohar, where more than 2,000 demonstrators had taken to the streets, Reuters reported.

Two people have been killed and around five others injured. Omani forces say rubber bullets caused the deaths.

Hundreds of thousands of Yemeni pro-democracy protesters have taken to streets of the capital Sana'a, demanding for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down from his 32-year rule.


Yemenis gathered near the University of Sana'a on Saturday as pro-democracy protesters showed no sign of abating from their primary demand for a regime change in the poor Arab country.

"The people demand the regime to step down," the demonstrators shouted.

"We are not intimidated by thugs" and "We do not fear the sounds of canons," they chanted.

Tunisian pro-democracy protesters
Fresh clashes between protesters and security forces in Tunisia have left at least three people dead and nine others injured as demonstrations continue against the country's interim government.


Violent clashes broke out late Saturday after Tunisian security forces used tear gas to disperse thousands of pro-democracy protesters that had gathered in front of the Interior Ministry in the capital Tunis, Xinhua reported.

According to witnesses, shots were exchanged between protesters and police in central Tunis until late in the evening. Helicopters were also seen circling over the Tunisian capital.

"Go home... I'll show you what democracy is," one of the police officers was heard shouting through a cloud of tear gas.

Libyan protesters have gained control over the country's oil fields as thousands of Libyans, demanding the ouster of Muammar Gaddafi's regime, are advancing towards the capital Tripoli, reports say.

Iran to build advanced fighter jet: commander



TEHRAN, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force has launched a project to design and build the country's most advanced fighter jet, the English language satellite Press TV reported Sunday.

Brigadier General Mohammadreza Karshki, a senior Iranian Air force commander, said Saturday that the Iranian Air Force is cooperating with the Defense Ministry in the project, which is now in the initial stages.

The new fighter jet is similar to the U.S.-built F/A-18, while its appearance is similar to F-5E/F Tiger II, according to Press TV.
