Protests in Egypt have entered their sixteenth day, following probably the biggest number of pro-democracy demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir [Liberation] Square yet.

The square resembled a tented city on Wednesday, with protesters refusing to budge until their demands for Hosni Mubarak's resignation were met.

Egypt: Anti-government protests enter 16th day with great intensity

As the anti-government protests continue in Egypt, hundreds of thousands of Egyptians demanding President Hosni Mubarak's downfall flooded Cairo's Tahrir Square in one of the biggest demonstrations yet against his continued rule after three decades in power.

Anti-government protesters in Cairo held their position in the capital s central Tahrir Square, wrapping up two weeks of protests calling on the country s president to leave. Many protestors were there for the first time. Some said they had been encouraged by other protesters who had told them about the festive atmosphere in the square, the hub of protests that have rocked Mubarak s rule. Many protesters camp overnight in what has become a tented village in the heart of the Egyptian capital, with people selling food, drink, newspapers and Egyptian flags. Army units stationed at the main entrances to the square did not hinder access.

The Muslim Brotherhood -- Egypt's main opposition group -- says at least 40 protesters have been killed in Kharga in southern Egypt, as the nationwide revolution in the crisis-hit country enters its 16th consecutive day.
According to the Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian security forces targeted the anti-government protesters with live bullets on Wednesday.

Cairo's Liberation Square remained flooded with demonstrators who call on embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The independent organization Human Rights Watch has so far put the death toll at almsot 300, after visiting just nine hospitals in troubled Egypt.

Mubarak loses control of state media

Updated at: February 8, 201111:19 am

Apnieyesp World NewsApnieyesp World News CAIRO: Hosni Mubarak”s control of Egypt”s state media, a vital linchpin of his 30-year
presidency, has started to slip as the country”s largest-circulation newspaper declared its support for the uprising against him.

Hoping to sap the momentum from street protests demanding his overthrow, the president has instructed his deputy to launch potentially protracted negotiations with secular and Islamist opposition parties. The talks continued for a second day on Monday without yielding a significant breakthrough.

A senior Israeli politician with deep ties to Egypt said on Monday that he had spoken to Mubarak four nights ago and that the president remained as determined as ever to stay on.

Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, who very recently quit as trade minister in Benjamin Netanyahu”s government, told The Daily Telegraph that Mubarak had told him: “This is not Beirut and this is not Tunis. I am sure that things are under control and don”t worry.”

'We Won't Give Up': Protesters Remain Defiant

Egyptian opposition groups are infuriated over a vague ultimatum by Vice President Omar Suleiman that protesters have two options — "dialogue" or "coup."

Success of Islamic Revolution in Iran Inspired Entire Muslim World

Success of Islamic Revolution in Iran Inspired Entire Muslim World(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The success of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 has inspired the entire Muslim world, said an eminent Indian scholar Tuesday in New Delhi.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Professor Basir Ahmad, former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in New Delhi, said: The success of the Islamic revolution, led by Imam Khomeini (R.A.), proved that by peaceful uprising of the people, even a powerful despotic monarch can be overthrown and replaced by a democratic government.

“The basic tenets by which the Islamic revolution succeeded were the Islamic principles of justice, human dignity and equality,” said Basir.

A wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East is sending a clear message to those in power − and those who aspire to be in power − in the Arab world. Together with the release of several sets of leaked secret documents, they are making it clear that one should never bet on America’s horse.

"America's horse" is the Arab leader who is backed by the United States and given a license to rule however he deems appropriate, as long as he doesn’t threaten Israel's security or other American interests in the region. In return, he is allowed to abuse human rights and deny his people economic and political rights. With America’s sanction, and under the banner of fighting Islamic fundamentalism, he can crush any opposition that arises.
