Day 53: 9 Year Old Among 8 Killed, Protests On Srinagar, Aug 02, KONS- On the 53rd day Monday eight more persons including two youngsters, one 9th and another 10th class student, were killed as government forces continued to battle masses on the streets of Kashmir with protests showing signs of no let-up. With eight more deaths today the toll since Friday has gone up to 23. Forty people have now died since June 11 when the current uprising began. Hundreds have been injured during the period. Hospitals on Monday continued to receive a stream of injured, scores with bullet wounds and many in critical condition. There were repeated calls for blood and every time hundreds of volunteers braving stringent curfew restrictions reached hospitals to donate blood. The day started when thousands of people chanting pro-freedom slogans took to streets in defiance of curfew in almost every major town of the Kashmir valley. The trouble started from Bijbehara in south Kashmir when the body of 17 year old Tariq Ahmad Dar reached his home in Simthen. Tariq, who was injured after being hit by a police tear gas shell on Sunday, had died in SKIMS, Soura in the morning. Tens of thousands of people, men women and children grieving and chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans flooded the streets.
