Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah
Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said the United States' interests clash with the popular movements in the Middle East and North Africa.
"When the Americans view that a certain battle will be bad for American interests, will have negative repercussions on the American interests, the Americans then come in and call on these regimes to stand down and try and lessen the losses as much as they can," Nasrallah said on Saturday.
"The American administration is trying to show itself as one, who defends the people."
He, however, warned that the measure is taken "in the hope of satisfying the people or tricking the people…getting the people back to their homes without achieving the aims of the revolution in the first place."
"These regimes specifically are the creation of America and they were under the protection of America for tens of years and they were armed as well by the Americans. They were strengthened by the Americans. They were strengthened against their people by the Americans," Nasrallah said.
"So the American administration is a partner in the crimes committed by these regimes."
He also defused the notion that Iran or any other party has motivated the protests, saying they "stem from the people."
His comments come as recent revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt have inspires people across the Middle East and North Africa to rise up against US-backed autocratic regimes.
Among the countries hit by the wave of Islamic Awakening are Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, Kuwait and Jordan.
