'Saudis in Bahrain to defend US military'
Saturday, 19 March 2011 03:58
A veteran Iranian politician says Saudi Arabian forces have been sent to Bahrain to defend the US military and repress the uprising of the Bahraini people.
On March 13, Saudi Arabia and a number of other Persian Gulf states deployed their armed forces in Bahrain in response to Manama's call for military help to quell public protests.
"Saudi Arabia has fallen into the US trap and instead of using its military to defend the Muslim people of Palestine, it is attacking the Muslim people of Bahrain," Fars New Agency quoted Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei as saying.
"The Muslim army of Saudi Arabia has been dispatched to Bahrain to defend US troops and stop the uprising of the Muslim nation of Bahrain," he stated.
Speaking in the southern city of Khorramshahr, which is a symbol of Iranian resistance and victory in retaking its territories occupied by the Western-backed Iraqi forces in the 1980s, Rezaei emphasized Iran's role in inspiring the wave of Islamic awakening and recent revolutions in the region.
"Presently, the Muslim people of regional countries have risen [to stand against autocratic regimes] while their source of reliance is Iran …," he said.
"[The fact] that the people of Bahrain are resisting despite being massacred is because they have their gaze on Iran [as their role model]," he added.
Rezaei concluded by saying that regional uprisings and the resistance of Muslim nations against oppressive powers are all indebted the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the liberation of Khorramshahr.
