Admission under EWS category not easy More Forms Received Than Seats On Offer Manash Pratim Gohain | TNN New Delhi: No nursery seat reserved for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) is likely to go vacant in schools this year as the number of forms received is more than the total seats on offer. Thanks to the extension to the last date for submission of forms and an awareness programme organized by organizations like Social Jurist, schools have received an overwhelming response in EWS category. Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar, Phase I has received 700 application for its 92-odd seats while Springdales, Pusa Road, has received 500 applications for its 25 seats. The last date for submission of EWS forms ended on Thursday. As per Directorate of Education's guidelines for nursery admissions, unaided private schools are supposed to reserve 25% of the total seats for the EWS and disadvantaged categories. Many schools expressed their displeasure over reserving 25% seats for the EWS till a few months back, claiming that they don't even get ample number of applications to fill up 15% seats in this category. It seems this year, the response has been different.

New Delhi: No nursery seat reserved for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) is likely to go vacant in schools this year as the number of forms received is more than the total seats on offer.
"The response at my school is overwhelming and it is important that we take this exercise seriously if we have to make the RTE successful," said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal of Springdales.
"The response is good, but it would have been more helpful had the government provided us with a detailed guidelines rather than just telling us to fill 25% seats for EWS based on draw of lots. Since there are no other directives, we are even getting applications from candidates who reside as far as eight kilometers away from the school," said Ashok Pandey, principal at Ahlcon International School.
The situation is similar at other schools. DAV in Vikaspuri has received 100 EWS forms for 50 seats. Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Ashok Vihar, has received 115 applications for its 100 seats.
Said Chitra Nakra, principal at DAV Vikaspuri, "The number of applications has increased manifold across schools. Even in DAV schools we have seen a positive response for these 25% seats."
While most schools agree that they would be able to fill all their EWS seats, officials claimed that in some cases they may not need any draw of lots.
They claimed that after verification of documents many applications could be rejected due to age of candidates and wrong documents.
