Defense employee warned about attacks hours before the bombing 12 Dec 2010 On Saturday, Sweden was exposed to what appears to be its first ever attack by a suicide bomber. On Sunday evening the Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå (TT) reported that they had received information that hours before the bombings in Stockholm an employee of the Swedish Armed Forces sent a warning to an acquaintance that "something serious" could happen on Drottninggatan (Queen Street)... Both the Swedish Security Service and the news agency TT, received an e-mail from a man threatening to kill Swedes, just 10 minutes before the blasts. [Yup, the only question I have at this stage of the game is who supplied the explosives: the CIA or MI5.]

European Amazon websites down after attack by WikiLeaks supporters 13 Dec 2010 The European websites of online retailer Amazon.com were knocked out for hours on Sunday night after an apparent attack by WikiLeaks supporters. It is the latest attack in recent days on companies that have stopped doing business with the embattled whistleblower organisation. In Germany, attempts to view the Amazon.de website resulted in error messages. The world's largest internet retailer's servers in Britain, France and Italy were similarly affected, though the websites were viewable again late Sunday.

 

Assange accuser wrote of need for revenge against cheating lovers 13 Dec 2010 Julian Assange's Swedish lawyer has delivered his strongest broadside yet against the prosecution of his client for r-pe and misconduct, telling an English newspaper that the case is based on lies and conscious connivance between the two women complainants. The remarks are the strongest yet made by Bjorn Hurtig, one of Sweden's most distinguished defence lawyers, and constitute a departure from the reserve that usually characterises Swedish legal process. They come as Crikey exclusively reveals that one of Assange's accusers has written of the need for revenge against former lovers, writing on a since-deleted blog post about revenge on cheating lovers that "Sometimes it is difficult to go on without some kind of payback".

 

Senate nears key vote on Obama tax package 13 Dec 2010 The Democratic-led Congress moved on Monday toward grudging approval of President Barack Obama's [insane] deal with Republicans to extend expiring tax cuts, even for the wealthiest Americans. Backers were expected to muster on Monday the needed 60 votes in the 100-member Senate to clear a procedural hurdle, before passage on Tuesday or Wednesday.
