HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND FUTURE OF DEMOCRACY मानवाधिकार हनन और लोकतंत्र का भविष्य ------------------------------- Date: 11th September, 2011, Sunday Venue: Valmiki Rangshala, Sangeet Natak Academy, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow (near Reserve Bank of India) Time: 2-5 pm Speakers: Dr. Binayak Sen, Prashant Rahi, Kavita Srivastava, Advocate Ravi Kiran Jain Friends, Human rights violations by the State are becoming a hall mark of our government system.  The people from border states like J&K and those of Northeast and Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar of central India facing human rights violations because of racial and geographical differences are united in their experience of suffering. Hence we see in Seema Azad jailed in Allahabad a reflection of Irom Sharmila, fasting against Armed Forces Special Powers Act for the last ten years in Imphal, or we feel the executions by Army in Kashmir around us. It Is clear that even the basic right to life and freedom of speech are at stake in our democracy. It is the biggest challenge of our times to protect these rights. It is in such times that this seminar is being organized. Dr. Binayak Sen who was jailed in Chhattisgarh on the charges of being a Maoist sympathiser and journalist Prashant Rahi, recently released from jail in Uttarakhand, facing similar charges, will be the main speakers at this seminar. In addition PUCL national general secretary Kavita Srivastava and PUCL national vice-president Ravi Kiran Jain, Advocate for Seema Azad, Organisational Secretary of PUCL, UP, in the case at High Court in Allahabad, will also express their opinion on the occasion.
