What does that mean oh blind, arrogant and rhetorical White House? and I quote: "White House:installing a democratic system" in Libya? You have to put your own house in order first, and that goes for the appalling Monarchical Britain and its dreadful Commander-in-Chief the Queen who has sanctioned all this British interference. Do not forget that all the British military swear an oath of allegiance to this woman! When will she put an end to all this war-mongering the world wonders? Shame on her!William Gladys.
White House: 'Installing a democratic system' is goal in Libya [Install one in the U.S., first.] 22 Mar 2011 The White House suggested Tuesday the mission in Libya is one of regime change, despite emphatic statements from President Obama and military brass that the goal is not to remove Moammar Gadhafi from power. According to a White House readout of a Monday night call between Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the two leaders "underscored their shared commitment to the goal of helping provide the Libyan people an opportunity to transform their country, by installing a democratic system that respects the people's will." The term "installing" suggests the goal of regime change.
'US-led no-fly zone on Libya to cost $1bn' --The first day of Operation Odyssey (*puke*) Dawn had a price tag of over $100 million for the US in missiles alone, according to estimates. 23 Mar 2011 The initial cost of a no-fly zone over Libya is likely to surpass $1 billion if the US-led military operations in the country persist for more than a few months, a report says. With the Western alliance struggling to enforce the no-fly zone over Libya, analysts say the expense for the imposition of the no-fly zone as part of attempts to unseat embattled ruler Muammar Gaddafi was likely to be between $400 million and $800 million, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Huge blast heard in eastern Tripoli 23 Mar 2011 A huge explosion has been heard on a military base in eastern Tripoli, the capital of Libya, witnesses say. The blast was heard "on Wednesday night on a military base in the Tajura region 32 kilometers (about 20 miles) east of the Libyan capital," the witnesses told AFP. The incident took place as the US-led coalition has intensified its military action against forces loyal to Libyan ruler Muammar Ghaddafi. Flame and smoke could be seen rising at the base after the blast, they said.
Blasts heard in Tripoli 23 Mar 2011 At least two blasts have been heard in the Libyan capital Tripoli before dawn, as the US-led military campaign continues with its aerial bombardment of the country. Dozens of civilians have been killed in Libya since the US, Britain, France and some other Western countries launched their attacks on the North African country.
U.S. rescue chopper shoots six Libyan villagers as they welcome pilots of downed Air Force jet --Father of boy whose leg may have to be amputated bears coalition troops no malice --Minister refuses to rule out use of ground troops --Algeria calls western military intervention 'disproportionate' 22 Mar 2011 Six Libyan villagers are recovering in hospital after being shot by American soldiers coming in to rescue the U.S. pilots whose plane crash-landed in a field. The helicopter strafed the ground as it landed in a field outside Benghazi beside the downed U.S. Air Force F-15E Eagle which ran into trouble during bombing raid last night. And a handful of locals who had come to greet the pilots were hit - among them a young boy who may have to have a leg amputated because of injuries caused by a bullet wound.

Nobel Committee asked to strip Obama of Peace Prize 21 Mar 2011 The Bolivian President and a Russian political leader have launched a campaign to revoke Obama's honour after the US attacked Libya. Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader and Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement today calling for the Nobel Prize Committee to take back the honour bestowed on US President Barack Obama in 2009. Zhirinovsky said the attacks were "another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States," and that the attacks demonstrated a "colonial policy" with "one goal: to establish control over Libyan oil and the Libyan regime."
Impeach Obama Effort Underway 23 Mar 2011 (OR) Despite a call by a group of Congressional leaders, a local Poli-Sci Professor doesn't think the President will be impeached over his decision for the U.S. to join military efforts in Libya. Portland State's Gary Malecha says this group, which includes Democrat Dennis Kucinich, is concerned the President acted outside the Constitution, approving action without Congressional support. But, he says there are many in Congress to who support the work that is being done in Libya, and not enough opposition to make an impeachment happen.
Dennis Kucinich's Campaign to Impeach Obama Over Libya War 23 Mar 2011 ...The quixotic Ohio congressman is blitzing the media with his latest passion—whether President Obama's war on Libya is an impeachable offense... The Ohio congressman has cast himself as a leading antagonist since Saturday, when, during a conference call of the Democratic caucus, he asked if Obama's failure to consult Congress before green-lighting the disturbingly named "Operation Odyssey Dawn" qualified as an impeachable offense. "I raised the question of are there constitutional limitations on executive power," he explained matter-of-factly. "This is an urgent debate for this country to have."
Libyan bombing 'unconstitutional', Republicans warn Obama --US public opinion split as Republicans claim Obama's use of military force in Libya is 'an affront to our constitution' [It is, but the hypocritical sacks of sh*t had no problem when Bush did it though, right?] Republican members of Congress are claiming the conflict in Libya is unconstitutional because Barack Obama failed to seek Congressional approval. President Obama sent a letter defending the Libya intervention to members of Congress on Monday in an effort to quell a growing rebellion over his failure to consult the Senate and the House of Representatives before embarking on the third major military action of his presidency. Under the US constitution, Congressional approval is required for declarations of war.
Libya: US planes 'dropped two bombs' to protect downed pilot 22 Mar 2011 American Harrier jets dropped two large bombs on Libyan armoured vehicles who posed a threat to a downed pilot, the US military said on Tuesday night. US officials insisted that rescue crews did not fire their weapons when retrieving the pilot, contesting media reports that a squad of Marines came in with "all guns blazing" and wounding several civilians. The pilot and his weapons officer bailed out of their F-15E Strike Eagle fighter over Benghazi when it became crippled by a mechanical fault during a bombing raid on Monday night.
Libyan Govt: 'We Would Never Kill Civilians' 22 Mar 2011 Moussa Ibrahim blamed coalition forces for killing 48 civilians on the first night of military action. He told Sky News that "many" more had been killed on the second and third nights of strikes. Britain and the international community should send a "fact-finding mission" from abroad to identify who is killing civilians, instead of sending "rockets and bombs". Dr Ibrahim said coalition strikes had hit "civilian and quasi-military" targets, such as ports and harbours used by fishermen and civilian workers as well as the army.

Japan fears food contamination as battle to cool nuclear plant continues --Abnormal radiation levels reported in tap water, vegetables and milk with concerns that fish may also be affected 22 Mar 2011 The operation to cool the reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has suffered a minor setback after smoke and vapour was seen rising from two reactors, as anxiety grew over the safety of food produced in the area. Days after authorities reported abnormal levels of radiation in milk, some vegetables and tap water, the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power [Tepco] said high levels of radioactivity had been found in seawater near the facility, raising fears that seafood has also been contaminated.
Smoke stalls work at Japan reactors 23 Mar 2011 Smoke rising from Japan's damaged nuclear power plant has once again stalled efforts to reconnect power lines to the reactors and restore cooling systems. On Wednesday, black smoke was seen rising at the quake-hit Fukushima Daiichi's No. 3 reactor building which led to the evacuation of workers from the four troubled reactors, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said. This is the third time in the past two days that work to restore power and cool down spent nuclear fuel pools at the plant has been interrupted due to steam and smoke rising from the No. 2 and No. 3 reactor buildings.
Workers pulled at Japan nuke plant as smoke rises 21 Mar 2011 Operators evacuated workers from Japan's tsunami-damaged nuclear plant Monday after gray smoke rose from one of its reactor units, the latest of persistent troubles in stabilizing the radiation-leaking complex. The evacuation brought to a standstill some of the work on restoring the plant's electrical lines and restarting the water pumping systems needed to keep nuclear fuel from overheating and releasing even greater amounts of radiation. Tokyo Electric Power Co. spokesman Hiroshi Aizawa said the evacuation was prompted by smoke rising from the area of the spent fuel storage pool at the plant's Unit 3 reactor building.
Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Skipped Inspections -- The plant had, in fact, been scheduled to be retired in February, but received a new 10 year additional lease on life 21 Mar 2011 The Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant skipped a set of safety inspections, the operator of the nuclear power plant told safety regulators less than two weeks before that disaster. The report to regulators was submitted by Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) to Japan's nuclear safety regulator, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency on February 28. TEPCO said it had failed to inspect 33 pieces of equipment in the six reactors at the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex.
Japan Fights to Restore Water in Freezing Cold After Quake 23 Mar 2011 Millions of Japanese in regions hit by the tsunami and 9.0 earthquake 12 days ago remain without water as the government restores communications to remote towns and villages in freezing weather. While about 90 percent of highways damaged by the temblor are open to the public, according to a United Nations report, temperatures in northeastern Japan dropped as low as minus 4.3 degrees Celsius (24.3 degrees Fahrenheit) this morning.
Navy to axe 'Fukushima type' nuclear reactors from submarines --Reactors sharing similar design to ones at Japanese plant to be dropped because they fail to meet safety standards 23 Mar 2011 The Royal Navy is to drop a dangerous type of reactor used in its existing nuclear submarines because it fails to meet modern safety standards, defence ministers have disclosed. A safer type of reactor is expected to be used in the submarines that will replace the Trident fleet, as the existing design shares very similar features to the nuclear reactors involved in the Fukushima Daiichi disaster in Japan.
Sales of new U.S. homes tumble 16.9% to record low 23 Mar 2011 Sales of new single-family homes collapsed in February, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday, as a combination of high unemployment, tumbling prices and a glut of cheaper alternatives brought activity to a near-standstill.
