To:
bangla-vision@yahoogroups.com THE UNION OF ROMANIAN COMMUNISTS PARTY CELEBRATED ITS CONGRESS LAST SUNDAY, 22 OF AUGUST The Congress of the Romanian Communist Union (UCR) took place last Sunday, August 22 in Bucharest, at its headquarters in the Salajean area (Nicolae Grigorescu, near the 1 Decembrie 1918 metro station), with the assistance of 60 people, representing the branches of the party inside Romania and some foreign diplomats posted to Romania (the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Charge d'Affaires ad Interim of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Syria). The session began with the anthem of Romania (Deºteaptã-te romane / Awake thee Romanian!) and proceeded with the speech of the current President, Daniel Dediu, who was reelected after the final votes. Ciprian Pop (Secretary General) and Daniel Dediu, (President of the UCR) Realitatea TV station was present at the congress, together with other journalists from Romanian dailies and presented a brief material regarding the meeting in its evening news bulletin. The U.C.R. declared itself contrary to the transformation of the Socialist Alliance Party (PAS) in the Romanian Communist Party, which took place recently, considering that this is merely an electoral strategy and also a metaphorical "privatization of the PCR", to serve the personal interests of Constantin Rotaru (Leader of PAS), or "a second murder of Nicolas Ceausescu". Therefore, the UCR declares its opposition to a possible integration into the PCR-PAS and prefers to keep its own line, being follower of the communism applied by Nicolas Ceausescu. The UCR continues the work of Nicolas Ceausescu and the PCR of the last years of socialism and has a pronounced nationalist tendency. Among other things, the Congress decided to ask the competent authorities of Romania to allow the movement of the Ceausescu couple in the Mausoleum of the former Freedom Park (known as Charles Park today), the place where during the 50s there was a monument erected in the memory of Romanian Socialist heroes.
