Indore: Various departments of University's Teaching Department (UTD) have barred SC/ST category students from appearing in the forth coming semester examinations in stark violation of Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalay's (DAVV) order of permitting them to appear in the examination.

After receiving complaints from students in this regard, DAVV had issued orders to all the institutes to allow the reserved category students to appear in the examinations whose dues have not been paid yet by the tribal welfare department.

"My examinations will start from May 7. Since our fee has not been paid by the tribal welfare department, we have been asked to pay the fees ourselves or stay away from the exams," said an M. Phil student of School of Languages.

DAVV registrar R D Musalgaonkar said that he had also received three complaints from students and has asked the departments to allow the students to appear in examination.

"Students of some departments have complained about it. They want their entire fee to be paid by the department wherein according to a new rule, a part of the fee has to be borne by them," he said.

On the other hand, department heads of the institutes said that they had only notified the students about paying their fee.

"We have verbally notified the students about the delay in their fee payment but have never asked them not to appear in their examinations," claimed a department head.

Some students have even alleged that departments have taken the entire fee from them for allowing them to appear in their exams. However, students haven't lodged any official complaint regarding the same.

The unions of dalit employees in UP on Sunday launched efforts in direction of garnering public support to their agitation demanding amendment in constitution to make quota in promotion a right.

On Lord Buddha Jaynati  Arakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti (ABSS), a body of pro-quota unions resolved to continue agitation till the reservation in promotions was given constitutional protection.

The office bearers of pro quota unions held a meeting in state capital to take  a pledge in front of Lord Buddha's statue in which a large number of dalit employees participated. In meeting the employees resolved to continue agitation until the quota was brought under ninth schedule of constitution by central government. To recall, following the apex court in an order set aside quota provisions in UP as unconstitutional, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief, Mayawati is stressing on constitutional amendment in this regard.

In meeting the ABSS office bearers said, in first phase of their agitation they would contact all MLAs and MPs elected from reserved constituencies to urge them support their agitation.

Since their existence as legislators was dependent only on the reservation, we hope the public representatives would understand and support our cause. If legislators, under pressure of leadership of their parties, hesitated supporting our agitation the dalit employee unions would seek support of public to protect the right of reservation, the ABSS office bearers said.

On May 13 ABSS is holding a conference in National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) on topic 'reservation and constitutional protection' with various experts of law and constitution participating in it. In conference a proposal for constitutional protection to reservation will be drafted which would be sent to all MLAs and MPs belonging to dalit community.

In meeting ABSS leaders renewed their appeal to the Governor asking for a serious consideration before he approves the proposal of cabinet aimed at dismissing quota in promotions as per supreme court order.
